Default No Reverse 2000 Saturn S DOHC automatic

I have searched the forum and I don't think it is the "reverse slam." I am new to the forum and am unfamiliar with the term but I assume it has to do with a hard kick when putting the car in reverse. All of the other gears work fine but after putting the car in reverse it won't go anywhere while hot. After it cools then it feels like it is slipping but it went enough to back it into the garage.

These are some options I have researched:

- Replace the input shaft nut

- Replace the valve body

- Replace the transmission

It is my girlfriends car and has lacked maintenance. Checked the fluids and it is full. What should I replace first? I have experience with working on cars but mostly Manual Nissans. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Drew

Also the engine is back against the firewall so I probably need to replace a motor mount as well. I have mounts from a manual saturn s series. Are the automatic transmission mounts the same as manual ones?

Welcome to the forums!

I would replace your fluid and conduct the reverse slam cure all.
Summarizing,
1. Change fluid and filter
2. Refill with new fluid and Prolong transmission treatment (any tranny treatment will do.
3. Set the parking brake and chock two wheels from the back
4. Start the car and set in reverse.
5. Let it idle there, in reverse, for 30 mins.
6. Change the fluid and filter again and see if that fixed it.

If that does not fix it, I would go with replacing and retorquing your input nut.

Basically, if it's slamming, you still have hope, if no reverse at all, it's a nut retightening:
