Default 2000 saturn ls/ls1 speedometer not working

Hello all we have a recently acquired saturn l series sedan that is continually throwing a po502 code and the speedometer is not working. The speedometer will cut in and out at times but typically does not work. I looked high and low and the only speed sensor i can find is on the passenger side of the vehicle and i am assuming that this is the sensor i am after. I pulled it all apart tonight and the wires and connections were all good. I need some further advice does it sound like a sensor? The wrench is on as well as the ses light and the security light. The air conditioning is also not working but I have not checked into it yet i suspect it could be low on coolant. help please

If you have a manual transmission, the speed sensor is located on the right front wheel bearing. It is the same type of sensor used for ABS, but if you have MTX you won't have ABS. If you have an automatic transmission the speed signal is from a sensor on the transmission. It would be a big help to people if you can fill in the blanks (engine. transmission) and get the codes pulled and posted here.

Cars this age are showing leaks in the aluminum piping of the AC system. Two common places are at a tube clamp under the air filter and at the flex hose connection on the line next to the compressor. Look for some recent posts on this.

Born Again: are you saying the trans speed sensor is the only sensor that will prevent a/t ls2 speedo from working? i just replaced mine ( no speedo, rough idle, hard shifts) and still no speedo. Wouldn't wheel speed sensor have similar symptoms?
