My new 09 Aura XR is great. I love it. One question...the outside temp gauge reading on the dash becomes stuck on occasion. It doesn't happen all the time but sometimes. It won't move for a long time and then all of a sudden it kicks in. Is this normal or is this an issue I should bring up with my dealer? Anyone else experience this? Thanks for any info.

I think it stops reporting the temp if you are stopped or driving slowly to not get the engine heat registering on there. Is that the problem you are seeing?

My Aura did this when it was new. It would get stuck for a few minutes, then climb or drop 1 degree at a time for several seconds until it got to the current temp.
Took it to the dealer, they replaced the temp sensor, and it fixed the problem.

I have seen this on my Aura 3.5. Lasted 24h then came back. I have compared the readings with another thermometer and it's fine no crazy readings.
I looks like the computer suspended the sampling for that period of time,so it could be some data analysis and calibration schedule,or a bad connection I don't know if this is normal ... 2008 AURA XE 3.5 TECHO GRAY mfg june '08

Just an update on this.
The reading work on an algorithm: outside temp. higher or lower than last reading/vehicle speed / time engine off. The way this thing is setup, the display could stop giving new sample reading: if you driving too slow or the outside temp is : higher / lower /same when you started the car ref pic3608e ... 2008 AURA XE 3.5 TECHO GRAY mfg june '08

My Aura does the same thing on occasion, never worried too much about it.

Mine does it because of short trips in city driving and so the average speed is below 18 mph and the engine time off is too short.
I give the car longer rides on weekends. ... 2008 AURA XE 3.5 TECHO GRAY mfg june '08

I have, like tonight, gone out to my car, turned the key on and checked the temperature. It is, for me a pretty accurate way to tell what the temp is. Right now it says it is 68 degrees-f which seems right to me. If it has to do with run time/ speed/ temp variations, I have never noticed. What I see is the temp updates about every 30 seconds to a minute, never actually timed it. I have even seen it change while I was sitting, idling in a parking lot. There have been so many program updates over the last few years and newer models than mine are probably doing the temp updates differently.

I have noticed that mine doesn't change the temp when sitting parked with the engine running. I was stopped once in a parking lot using the phone and it was like 86 out, a storm came while I was sitting there and after I started driving again after the rain it went down to like 76 which is what one of those bank type signs was saying nearby. I have never seen mine update when stopped, it seems that you have to start driving to get it to update.
Like Phaeton Driver said it could be different cars have different programs in them.

I know what you mean ! But I have the official Gm memo in hands because I went to the dealer yesterday for an oil change and complained about it (readings). Document ID 2195201, #PIC3608E 2007-2009 Saturn Aura,Sky,...G5.G6... new Malibu, HHR, Cobalt Complaint "Some customers might complain about the outside temp. display reading being inaccurate at times" then it gives the outside temp. display operation. just Google pic3608e you will find the text. BTW The Chevy dealer does my warranty work now and noticed on the work order that my Aura is not a Saturn anymore but a General Motors 2008 Aura ![]() ... 2008 AURA XE 3.5 TECHO GRAY mfg june '08

they are correct about the temp gauge not registering unless the car is moving at a fast enough speed. You are not going to get an accurate measurement unless the car is moving so why try and measure. It can be 73 out but if my car is out in the sun it will say 108 when i first start. Which is fine because thats how hot the vehicle is and its measuring. Once you start driving at a high enough speed it should measure somewhat accurately.

That's good. I had an '04 Ion 3 before my Aura, and I remember the temp gauge being unreliable and inaccurate. Maybe their worse on some cars than others.
