Default 96 SL1, Oil Pressure Sensor Gauge

Hey there, I have a 96 SL1, which is in my profile, and I want to install a oil pressure gauge, which looks like it runs off of straight tubing. I bought this thing months ago, but haven't had the time to install it, I now have time of course and was wondering where I could possibly hook such a thing up to the block?
I just change the transmission on this my-self, and I feel ashamed after all that work I did that I don't know how to do such a simple (as it seems) mod.

Thanks in advance.

Wrench Re: 96 SL1, Oil Pressure Sensor Gauge

Well, on my 92 - same block.....it was underneath the intake manifold...right by the starter. i believe its the leftmost one looking from the front. I took out my stock one as it just feeds the dash light....it may throw the oil light on - not sure as i dont currently have a bulb in that spot. i got a 24mm deep socket to take it out...lol make sure it has a hole in end that threads into the engine when you remove it - i unknowingly removed my knock sensor the first time.
Good Luck

Lol! Nice, thank you for your reply though, my oil sensor never works anyhow, but I will try this and let you know how it goes.

Thanks again.

Wait a second, 24mm you say? That's bigger than I would expected, you sure that's the right size? lol When I had the engine out, I don't remember seing a bold that large on the back. Thanks again.

You could probably put a brass tee fitting in there, and have the lite as well as
the mechanical guage.
Also there is another place in the OIL GALLEY to the left of the lite sensor
a plug ,that can be removed for the guage install .

There is like 2 or 3 plugs on the oil galley but they are different size than the oil sensor plug. I have yet to find an adapter to adapt to an oil pressure gauge.

Well if the adapters it came with fit, or if I remove the wrong one, do I have to use teflon tape ro something to reseal the threads?

Ok - well I found the 24mm reference somewhere else here - i went and bought one and it worked perfectly. I had to use the adaptor that came with the sensor, fit right in.

you could use a bit of teflon - i did but make sure its not hanging over the tip or a piece might go into your engine. make sure you wrap it counter clockwise (opposite of the way you screw it in) sorry, so that it wont be unwrapped when you screw it in. Or you could use some thread dope.

Ah yeah, I finally did it today, and it was infact a 24MM but I had to use a deepwell socket because the dura last small bit was too short inside to clear the plug. I had to make sure the lug was REALLY tight though with a wrench to stop the small oil leak I had at first lol... (dumb me). Works great now, thanks guys, teflon and the socket did the trick.
