Question Grinding/noise when in reverse and the car won't move

My mother has a 2004 Saturn Vue v6 redline. Well about a week ago she had been having trouble with putting the Vue in reverse to back up, it grinds and won't move. It doesn't do it all the time just most of the time, like she can trim the car off and back on then it will let her back up. It is throwing two codes.... P0705 transmission range switch sensor/neutral safety switch.... And then the code for the O2 sensor bank 2, what could be the problem plz help .. it does have a slight High idle. She did say once when she tried starting it made the same grinding noise.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

A couple of thoughts ... transmission PARK/NEURTRAL switch could be out of adjustment or failing.

Have Mom try shifting from PARK to NEUTRAL and then back to reverse to see if it improves engaging reverse gears.

I can email extracts to replace and/or adjust the PN switch ... PM address if interested.

Can you post the exact O2 sensor code? There are several O2 codes - a few are set by failing sensor and others could indicate bad wiring or fuse(s).

...
I try to visit forum often but suggest you use private messages if in a rush (comes to cell) and include email address for extracts. I seldom check visitor messages so please don't use.

I'll email several extracts and you can email further questions or post to forum.

Re O2 sensor - P0036 is for Bank 1 Sensor 2 heater circuit - heater wiring for both bank 1 sensors is provided by same fuse so if you don't have a P0030 code the problem is probably internal to sensor.

BTW - bank 1 is three cylinders nearest windshield and sensor 2 would downstream or after the catalytic converter.
