P0421 code on 2003 L300
2003 L300 with 103,000 miles. Bought the car used about 3 months ago from the local Saturn dealer. Check engine light came on a few weeks ago. Took it to the dealership, and was told that it could be either the thermostat or the catalytic converter. They said the thermostat was the first thing to check/replace, so they replaced it at a cost of $630. The check engine light has never gone off. Took the vehicle to Autozone, and it shows a code of P0421 for a defective catalytic converter. The car runs fine, doesn't burn or leak oil. Do I need to replace the converter?

HOLY MOTHER OF COWS! You got shanked by the dealership for such an easy to fix part!
Yes you do if you ever want to pass emissions testing for your state inspection.
