2002 SL2
Default Brake Drum Self Adjuster....

Replaced my brake drums on the rear today. Loud noisy grinding sounds, now gone...

In order to make them fit, I needed to turn the self adjuster.

Most of the teeth on the self adjuster were chipped / broken...

Are these necessary? Should I replace the self adjuster?

Also to tighten the brake shoes (move closer together) go from the brake cylinder down when looking at the front of the brake assembly....

Default Re: Brake Drum Self Adjuster....

A proper drum brake system overhaul requires removing everything from the backing plate and cleaning and correctly repainting the backing plate. Then all parts are replaced with new, including the drum. Any less than that usually leads to a less than satisfactory experience.
