Pry out the plastic pin(s) < can't remember whether it's one or two, but a quick look tells you; it's not like there's one hidden > and slide handle to the side, & off.

My 95 SL1 has 1 retainer on each handle. Poke the center pin into the collar, then remove the collar/pin. Pull the handle to the side to remove it. The collar/pin is easily seen on the underside of the handle.

your car has one push clip. you have to pull the center pin out to remove it, but a lot of times it breaks before it comes out. i have gotten them off by carefully drilling it out, or by heating up a small metal pick with a propane/butane torch and scewering the center pin to pull it out. once the clip is out just slide the handle off.

NO YOU DON'T. You push in on the center pin with a nail or other similar small pointed object. After you push it in till it clicks, you just pry the whole stopper out with a flat screwdriver.

i think you are confusing the fastener that holds the door handles with the fastener that secures your radio bezels or gauge cluster bezel.. the door handle clip on a 97 has a center "pin" that sort of the shape of a thumbtack, with a wide "head", it cant be push in unless its broken..

I have removed door handles on both a 93 and a 99, and both had fasteners just like the radio bezel.

Two different styles of hold in pins.
The first style out only had the center pin shaft that was easiest to push up to get it out. The second style had a head on it that needed to be pulled out as the head would not let it be pushed up.
