And here I am going on 2000 miles with INSP 0.

I changed the oil around 4500 miles and didnt know the correct procedure then, and now I am just to lazy to reset as I wont follow it anyways. Just doing every 7500 miles, speaking of which I will have to change the oil and rotate the tires over thanksgiving.

So you are at 6500 miles since the last reset (or when it was new) with INSP 0? According to the monitor, you should change it sooner than 7500 mile intervals.

There's nothing wrong with ignoring the monitor and changing it sooner, but I wouldn't extend the interval that the monitor recommends.

I think I'm a little confused about your mileages, though. Maybe you are at 12,000 miles and the monitor came on at 10,000?

Ya mine is coming on around 9000-10000 mile range, I am basically at 11,000 now. Like you said, I am ignoring it and doing it sooner, so I see no harm in ignoring it. There would be no way, even with me putting full synthetics in I would go longer than what the car recommended.

Hey everybody, sorry to bring up an old post, but my INSP 1000 came up after only 3-4 months and just over 1000 miles (maybe up to 1200 miles or so). I did have it in for service, but for the fuel filler neck, not for an oil change. I'm at work now so I can't verify oil color/condition, but this seems awfully early for an oil change.

PS: My commute is 20 miles each way, probably 18 miles of that is freeway, I go 65-70 mph, and I'm NOT one for drag racing at every stoplight.

Thanks for the help!

How come the guy through OnStar was telling me to put the key in the ON position, but not turn the car on...then put the gas pedal all the way to the floor 3x? I think they should know the proper reset sequences for this.

I sure learn more about my car every day...geez, and I thought my 1988 Honda Accord was complicated!

The 3x pedal push is the dance to turn it off on almost every American GM car...must be because this is an Opel in disguise that it's different

I notice on my Astra (08 3d XR) that if I press and release, then hold the trip button again to display the service interval, it always says INSP 1000. The car has only 1500 miles on it and it does not alert me to a need for an oil change at all when I start the car. When I call up that display, is it just telling me that the default alert for an oil change is 1000 miles? I guess I was under the impression that when I called up the display I would get a more proactive countdown to service based on my habits. Thanks!

question about insp 1000. I have almost 7000 miles on my Astra. The insp 1000 went off around 3000 miles and I had the oil changed. I had to reset the insp 1000 though, which was no big deal. I wonder when the insp 1000 will "go off" again. It has been more that 3000 miles...is there a rhyme or reason to it?

I also have a question about the "insp 1000" message. I just reached 300 miles on a brand new Astra and I have started getting the warning. My particular car sat on the dealer lot for a few months, so it is possible that the OLM is determining that I need an oil change based upon time? I was planning on changing the oil at 1500 miles in a month or so, but should I do it sooner? When did other people get their first oil change warning?

Yes, that's certainly possible. The GM OLS uses a variety of factors to determine oil life. I had a similar situation to yours. Mine was delivered to the dealer in early June 2008, but I bought it in late March 2009 with 20 miles on the odometer. I got the INSP1000 message at just about 2500 miles at the end of May. Since it had nowhere near a large amount of miles on it, it must've based the message on time as it had probably been a year since the car was manufactured.

Although yours was at your dealer for a few months, it could have been at another dealer(s) prior to yours. There's a way to use the VIN to track the vehicle's build date, I think, but I'm not sure how.

The build date, month/year at least, should be listed on the sticker located on the driver's door, below the latch.

i picked up my car friday with 465 miles on the clock. the insp shows 0.

i tried to reset it and still get 0.

will try the method in this thread today and see if it resets. i cant imagine it is related to time sitting in the oil pan.

i should have pushed them for new oil since the old stuff may have varnished from sitting in the pan for a year. the dealership give free oil changes for the first two year, i got them to agree to put synthetic in.

I just checked the date on my Astra and it says 04/08. So that means that it has sat at different dealerships for about a year. No wonder the OLM wants to get the old junk out of there.

I'm getting the INSP1000 light also after about 7 months of ownership and only 1,500 miles. Yes I pretty much do short trips but I guess I'll check and change my oil to see if that helps.

I have had my Astra for almost 2 years now and have over 62,000kms on it and this inps 1000 has just come on. I have done regular oil changes to my car at every 5000kms. After reading all the posts I am going to assume that this indicator has come on because the shop did not reset it. This was the first time at the GM dealership we now go to due to our Saturn dealership closing.

It's possible they never reset it, or it could just be that the OLMS thinks you are almost due. How long since your last oil change?

I got my oil changed about a month and a half ago... I have about another 1000kms to go before I hit 5000kms for my next oil change. But I have even let it go longer than the 5000kms before and this insp 1000 have never come on, so i think its nothing to worry about it just never got reset.

I changed my oil a couple weeks ago but just got around to resetting the INSP light, which is now reading 1000. I followed the reset procedure in the manual without success. Does anyone else know if the reset procedure printed in the manual is correct? It seems they left out the "hold brake pedal down" part.
