Re: Do rear brakes engage in park on abs vehicle?

No brakes engage when you just put the automatic transmission selector in PARK. PARK only engages a 'pawl' to lock the transmission and on FWD cars this means the front axles are locked. Nothing...

Re: My SL1 '99 is having intermittent radio issues and a weird blinker issue.

I can't address all of the issues, but IF the left ft turn signal flashes real fast (not just on the dash, but the actual front signal), it means your right rear turn signal has either burnt out, or...

Re: Help buying another SL (by monday) :P

"2002 Saturn SL1 but the DOHC apparently"?
Either they have swapped in a DOHC (SL2) or its got the SOHC engine as an SL1.
SL1 has all 4 plugs in the very front of the engine, whereas the SL2 has...

Re: lower or higher bypass oil filter which is better for sl1 95

Why in the world would you need the idle at 2000 rpm?
If a 5-speed, you are going to remove years off of the clutch and if automatic, its still not good having to hold the tranny back as if it were...

Re: Top engine mount

Say Turbo1002, did you at least loosen (and retighten) the lower dogbone below the crankshaft?
It is really necessary IF the TAM is removed/replaced.

Re: Cps

Are you serious? Pushing even a saturn up onto a curb would not be my choice of exercise.

PS, out here in the 'sticks', I would have to push the car 7 miles just to find the first curb. Ha ha.

Re: Cps

Does your father have a premonition of the car dying out on you?
If so, maybe you could show him some honor and just change it out for his sake. Besides, its a whole lot easier to change at home...

Re: Antifreeze low dash warning...

^^ Yes, and I was not the original owner of the car and don't have any history.

Re: Anti drain back valve test failed on wix filters

Fetch, if that's a spin on filter, then I stand corrected, but isn't that metal cap, just covering a drop-in cartridge? If a standard filter, then what a mess when it is removed!

By the way, that...

Re: Anti drain back valve test failed on wix filters

Packard, since no oil filter mounted in any car is ever suspended upside down as in your test, there will always be oil retained in any filter...sufficient to provide oil protection right at startup....

Re: Antifreeze low dash warning...

Interesting, my 98 SW2 must have had an aftermarket bottle, because there was no molded-in-place level....I just always made sure that the crosshatch "X" down inside the throat was covered with...

Re: Top engine mount

Fuel mileage? Replacing the top engine mount will not affect gas mileage, just vibration.

Re: Headlight Issues

Hi Kingsfan, welcome to the Forum!

Isn't your bulb a standard 55w H11?
Simply remove a few bolts and tabs, twist CCW on the dust cover at the rear of the assembly housing and see what you have,...

Re: New Saturn SL1 Owner - Suggestions

Speaking of a genuine Saturn top motor mount, the last remaining ones that I have been touting are from this ebay seller, he has 5 remaining.
Still $149.99, if you can afford one.

Saturn S Series...

Welcome to the Forum.
It sounds like you are off to a great start!

Re: Brake Light in Cluster Not On

Remove the 2 (?) screws at the rear of the console....you should have access to a switch at the e-brake base.

Re: Fuel line rupturing- Overpressure???

Are you talking about your 95 S or the 2000 L?
Living in the midwest, if it's steel, watch for RUST due to winter salt, and gravel striking the weakened, rusty steel.

If rubber/plastic, watch out...

Re: Surge tank is problematic

That cap will work, and if you have an original Saturn reservoir, it should seal as you tighten the cap......if is somehow is leaking past the threads, at worst, you could wrap PTFE...

Re: 2000 SL2 problems

Mileage reduced, low gauge temperature reading, sure change the thermostat but for the 2 reasons listed, I would only change the ECTS. This sensor alone will drop your gas mileage AND show low...
