Re: 1999 SL2 Crankcase valve (?)

It is near impossible to "fry" a converter. So what is the real issue here?

Re: TRS 2/TCC fuse blowing.

Good idea. Those are used properly tested solenoids so you know they are good and teh buss plate is functional.

The solenoids fail from heat and vibration. There are multiple turns in each layer...

Re: TRS 2/TCC fuse blowing.

Actually these solenoids can fail in the low resistance direction and not then go open circuit. This is why you actually check resistance on these things.

Re: TRS 2/TCC fuse blowing.

Step #1 is check the solenoids cold resistance and top connector for heat damage. Replace all failed solenoids.

Re: 02 SL2: No AC

Remember, the schrader valve is NOT the primary boundary. The screw on caps with the o-ring are and these should be replaced periodically to maintain system integrity.

The only major critical...

Re: Range switch faulty ?

Many OEM Saturn parts came from Japan. You indeed may have gotten lucky. There is a very specific alignment procedure and there is no rocking back and fort allowed. There is a scanned copy in my...

Re: Range switch faulty ?

Aftermarket switches are hit or miss on quality. Those are very small pin contacts in that switch and multiple switches are closed/opened to encode the selected position. General recommendation is...

Re: 1999 SL2 Crankcase valve (?)

Yep, and some people mount a small cone filter on that intake and toss the tube as when the engine gets a little loose it blows oil back into the intake through that hose. The single hole no rattle...

Re: New dogbone mount or just the insert

You tell by looking and if you do not have the late design you go get a set from some gen 3 cars by pulling only the transmission side as they will still be clean. This is what the correct shell...

Re: Silly Electrons

JY and get another BCM out of a Saturn with the same number of connectors and the same options. The 30 min security relearn will marry it back to the car. The engine/transmission does not matter but...

Re: 1999 SL2 Crankcase valve (?)

Sometimes you get the one with the plastic elbows and sometimes you get a chunk of 3/8 hose, just depends.

Re: Pinging / Spark Knock for Four Years on '99 SL

If it goes away with 93 octane fuel then what you were hearing was the interplay between the PCM advancing the spark to maximum advance and the knock sensor signal retarding it. It is normal and...

Re: 1999 SL2 Crankcase valve (?)

The hose in the picture is the clean filtered air intake to the crankcase. You do not want to suck unfiltered air into the engine as the silica dust contained will soon eat the rings and bearings....

Re: Pinging / Spark Knock for Four Years on '99 SL

Yes, the design is to run with the max timing advance just before detectable knock. It is credible to have degraded knock sensor sensitivity. The gen-3 relocated and redesigned the sensor as a result...

Re: AC "Tube" replacement? (discontinued pn: 21031290)

The cost of attempting a repair will way exceed the cost of a replacement. Either way it has to come out of there.

Aluminum welding is a touchy process on thin tubing that has been oil soaked for...

Re: AC "Tube" replacement? (discontinued pn: 21031290)

Pull from a pick and pull. That is aluminum tubing and the system has or had oil that was exposed to moisture in it at some time. I would also flush out the entire system unless you can tell the leak...

Re: Took a gamble, bought a tech2 clone (Tech2Win)

No BCM on a gen 2 Saturn. The BCM arrived on the 00-02 models.

Re: Pinging / Spark Knock for Four Years on '99 SL

The sound you are hearing only occurring under heavy throttle and load is not abnormal and as long as you have adequate fuel a non-issue. The only 2 things that would be causing an inadequate fuel...

Re: Pinging / Spark Knock for Four Years on '99 SL

There is only mechanical cam timing and the use of premium gas advances the spark timing considerably. This lowers the exhaust exit pressure and velocity. Exactly when do you hear this sound?

Re: Engine surging and stalling, engine temp gauge fluctuating, where do I start?

ECTS, ECTS connector, ECTS wiring. No splices in the ECTS wiring unless soldered --NO crimp connectors!

Best guess is you have a bad crimp connector in the wiring and this alone will cause your...

The WA codes and years used are in the parts book. They are also available from the touch up paint suppliers.
