Re: Tire rubbing strut when braking

Seems like the balance issue was the hub, but this must be a separate issue?

Part of why I've been so confused by it, and it all started by changing wheels. So as far as my gf is concerned that...

Dizzy Re: Tire rubbing strut when braking

Ok it's back.
I took pictures back there as suggested and can see that the tire isn't rubbing anymore, so that's not really the problem like a thought it was.
Must be a brake problem?

I...

Re: Tire rubbing strut when braking

Well I checked the seemingly bad wheel, definitely lots of rust. Scrubbed it all real well, put it back together and it feels 70% better.

Now I just need to do the same thing to the other front...

I will hopefully have time tomorrow morning to check out the hub/rotor mating surface.

Re: Tire rubbing strut when braking

I do remember doing that when trying to figure out, but I think it had a little play, didn't seem too bad though. I will check it again.

I would say that now, the big problem is a vibration. It...

Re: Tire rubbing strut when braking

I have swapped wheels from other side and had them rebalanced.

It is no longer rubbing, adjusting the camber at the knuckle bolts stopped that.

It's really sounding like the hub may have crap...

Re: Tire rubbing strut when braking

Man I've put like 500k miles on Saturns and never had a problem quite like this. Thinking about it, I think we put 50k on this sc1 with the problem, but it never bothered me enough to do anything but...

Re: Tire rubbing strut when braking

I know! Forgive me, I'm usually not this confused...

The wheels are original, straight off the sl2 I sold.

The tire is no longer rubbing since adjusting the camber all the way out.

But...

Re: Tire rubbing strut when braking

Thank you, yes after I swapped the wheels it started doing it right away and I could see where it was rubbing.
It hadn't happened very much by that point so it was just very clean and shiny compared...

Re: Tire rubbing strut when braking

Ok I realized that I forgot an important detail. The rubbing pulses, not an even rubbing.

Well I've adjusted it all the way and seems to no longer be rubbing, however there is definitely a...

Re: Tire rubbing strut when braking

I used to work as a tech and used a fancy alignment rack to follow the directions and give alignments. Never saw anything about KPA

I was looking at the top mounts for the struts, thinking of...

Re: Tire rubbing strut when braking

Thank you for the reply, I guess I'll have to take it apart and inspect a little more carefully. Maybe I can slot the knuckle a little more?

Tire rubbing strut when braking

I swapped the 15" alloys from my sl2 to my sc1 before I sold the sl2 for cheap.

Now the tire is rubbing on the front driver's side strut only while braking.

I've tried pumping the tire all...

Re: Wheel swappability

Update:
The sl2 is saved! No crusher, hopefully will go on to live a much longer life. I struck a deal with someone on Craigslist for a partial trade.

I was able to adjust my camber on my sc1...

Re: Wheel swappability

Please help,
It's a 185/65/15 and I can feel/ hear it rub only when braking. Tire was at 30psi. I took off the wheel and see where it was rubbing.
Why is this happening? Should I swap my 14"s...

Re: Wheel swappability

That's also one of the main reasons I got the sl2 5spd with 4 wheel disc. But it's not working out :-(

I've towed 2000# with my SC2 several hundred miles up some pretty decent grades without any...

Re: Wheel swappability

Thank you for the link explaining the rear subframe and sway bar.

I don't think I'll be tackling that. I used to tow with my SC2 and plan on a little bit of towing with the sc1. I know the power...
